Here is a press release I found from a company producing a DHEA product. The release focuses on men over 30 and testosterone levels.
Some of the issues they mention for falling DHEA levels with age include erectile dysfunction (ED), fatigue, loss of strength, loss of stamina, decreased energy levels, loss of muscle mass, decreased sexual stimulation, softening of bone tissue, and poor sleep patterns.
Another ingredient in their product is called L-Arginine. Former football player Roger Craig is quoted in the release. I haven't tried this product myself but wanted to put the information out there.
True Healthy Products recently released their new Cell Formula supplement line for men over 30 which features the DHEA supplements product, “Daily Optimizer”. The Daily Optimizer is a testosterone boosting supplement which contains key ingredients for men over 30 including DHEA and L-Arginine.

Benefits of DHEA supplement
DHEA.ca
Here is another interesting article I found by G. Lalonde, this one is on some of the benefits of DHEA. In the article, he covers some of the possible benefits relating to depression, bone density, heart disease and menopause. As always, you should consult your doctor before taking dhea supplements.

On its website the Mayo Clinic calls DHEA a steroid hormone that aids in the production of other hormones in the human body. Unfortunately, after the age of 30, DHEA levels begin to decline and patients suffering from AIDS and type 2 diabetes have been found to have low levels of DHEA.
So is taking a DHEA supplement something that individuals should consider in light of research that shows that it could help increase bone density and protect against heart disease? Of course, as usual you should consult with your health provider.

Other impacts of DHEA supplementation include:
1 - Depression - In a 2005 National Institute of Mental Health study researchers took a look at the effects of DHEA on midlife-onset minor and major depression. Scientists observed that participants who received DHEA therapy experienced improvements on a depression rating scale compared to a control group that simply received a placebo. While the results look promising more research is still needed to come to a firm conclusion.
2 - Bone density - During a two year study reported in the "American Journal of Clinical Nutrition" participants who took DHEA, vitamin D and calcium increased their bone mineral density compared to the placebo group that took only a placebo, vitamin D and calcium.
3 - Heart disease - There could be a relation between DHEA and reduction in age-related heart disease. In a Japanese research study researchers discovered that low DHEA supplementation increased artery flexibility and vascular function.
4 - Menopause - In a 2004 study, scientists found that when menopausal women used DHEA they experienced improvements in hot flashes as compared to the control group that took a placebo. In addition no side effects were reported.
Bottom line is that research supports the benefits of taking a DHEA supplement, especially as we get older. Of course, always check with your health care professional before taking any supplement because there have been some adverse affects reported. The American Cancer Society reports that the long-term use of DHEA could result in irregular heartbeat and decreased levels of good cholesterol. There have also been reports of insomnia resulting in feeling irritable as well as severe mood swings.

DHEA supplement - What is it?

Here is a well balanced article on DHEA I found. It explains some of the possible beneifts and potential drawbacks of dhea, and reminds to consult a doctor first before taking dhea.

Article by G. Lalonde
A steroid hormone, DHEA supplement is often associated with claims to get rid of fat, increase memory and delay the ageing process and to lead to improved overall wellness. The way it works is that the body converts DHEA into estrogen or androgen, depending on whether you are female or male. The health benefits derive from the production of these two hormones.

As you get older your hormone levels naturally decrease. Taking a DHEA supplement will increase the hormone levels and act to slow down the ageing process and keep your body fitter. Because of this, DHEA is not usually recommended for people under the age of fifty. It is naturally produced in your body but levels tend to peak in early adulthood and steadily decrease as you age.
As with any supplement, you should check with your Doctor before taking them. He will probably run some tests to determine your current level of DHEA and determine if you need any supplement. It's important to be tested because while a DHEA supplement can bring great benefit if your levels are low, taking it when your naturally occurring levels are normal could do you some harm.
What kind of harm could taking DHEA cause. Well, since it alters your hormone levels, and your hormone levels regulate many bodily functions, throwing them out of balance could lead to any number of unpredictable results. It has been know to cause skin irritation, facial hair growth in women along with severe mood swings. If you are already being treated for hormone related problems you should probably stay away from DHEA unless your Doctor recommends it.
It isn't difficult to get DHEA in the US as it is available from many health food stores and of course there are many online sites you can shop at. Wherever you shop, it's extremely important that you make sure you are buying the right dosage because of the problems that too much DHEA can cause. And of course, we can't emphasize often enough that you should consult your Doctor before taking DHEA.
Taking a DHEA supplement may just be what you need to improve your overall feeling of wellbeing, and if your Doctor approves it, you can safely take it.
DHEA Supplement has much more information on DHEA.
